RE: Lug studs - Installing them??



Jim, I think you are going to hear differing opinions on this. IMHO
regarding the old tapered axle setup...the tapered hub and drum is one
assembly. The studs are swedged at the factory after the hub and drum are
put together, holding the two parts together. Some machine shops have the
tools for cutting the swedge so they can press out the studs. The new ones
should be pressed in. You can suck them up with an air wrench but that has
to put undue torque on the studs, weakening them. I know other people on the
forum who have had good experience tapping the studs to get the drum off,
but it did not work for me. /Butch/ Ferndale, WA.
