According to my alignment tech, if you turn one wheel and other other turns the opposite direction AND you can't only turn one wheel (meaning with the thing in park and someone holding the other wheel you can't turn yours) it does have a limited slip. As it turns out, though, this is not my handling problem. Turned out to be my lower ball joints. Guess I'm going to have to call off my trip for now which is a real shame, my grandfather was going to paint it. ----- Original Message ----- From: Ben Jr. Morgan<mailto:polara_hotrods@xxxxxxx> To: 1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxx<mailto:1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, August 21, 2007 5:35 PM Subject: limited slip: yes or no? Ok, so I'm driving along in my 64 wagon hauling down the freeway and after a little while I notice the thing starts handling badly in the corners. Actually, its like it wants to nose into the curves and let the rear end slide out. So I've got all these thoughts giong on in my head like "maybe the stearing box is worn out" or "maybe I didn't get those holes drilled evenly when I modified the forward leaf spring hangers" then I got to thinking, saturday I had serviced my 742 8.75 rear diff that came out of a 64 383 727 2dr hard top polara. Hmmmmm, could this thing be a limited slip and I didn't know it? When I got home I jacked it up, left it in gear (motor off) turn a wheel and the other wheel turns the opposite direction....then I fire the motor up, and let it idle in 2nd gear (it's a four speed) and BOTH tires are rolling!!! Albeit one faster than the other. Sounds like a limited slip doesn't it? Guess I'll have to go down and get some additives in the morning and hope I didn't ruin it already. Its been a great rear end.
