driving with a manual valve body

Hi folks,

I put a full manual valve body in my '65 Coronet last winter. Just sold my '73 Fury so the Coronet is back to being my daily driver until I get my Scout on the road. This is the first time I've driven a car with a manually shifted automatic so I was wondering what the best way to downshift while driving was. Originally the car did it at full throttle only. The rear end bangs around a lot if I shift down to 2nd at part throttle so I hardly ever do that. Any pointers?

Anyone going down to Somerset KY this weekend for the car show?

Thanks
Mike O
