Dim Instrument Cluster lights

Hi all
My brother & I bought an instrument cluster from someone breaking a 63
Polara convertible, and had them send it off to Autoinstruments for a
full resto.
The one we still have here on the car has very dull (almost
non-existent) dash lights so I asked Autoinstruments if they could make
sure the lights on the one they are working on are up to scratch.
Their guy (very helpful, so far) replied, suggesting the problem with
our existing lights is more likely the rheostat in the dimmer switch.
He said:
"Regarding your dim lights, I think this is not a problem with your
cluster but a problem with the rheostat in your dimmer switch. These
lights were bright when new and I think your dimmer switch may be on
"FULL" for lights but its not sending the same resistance reading. You
can try to clean it but you may need to replace the switch. The bulbs
are 12v and if they get a full 12v will be very bright."

So, if cleaning it doesnt work (and I wouldnt know where to start!), and
his diagnosis is correct, does anyone know if we'd be able to get a
replacement dimmer switch?

Thanks in advance
