D - 1968 model year
383 - 383-cid V8 engine


Are you sure it is '482'?  If it is, then
4 - April
8 - 8th (1968)
2 - 2nd shift

Which does not jive with the casting date of 6/13/68  (June)

712 -
July 12 (1968) - Date the engine was assembled.  Quite a gap from casting
date in February.  (2/29/68)

(Change the casting dates around and everything makes sense)


HP - High Performance
383 with 4-bbl carb
