RE: Max Wedge Info?

Bill,

Thanks for that! I appreciate the details, and I am enjoying the Mopar world. I live in Brownsburg Indiana, and my in-laws live in Bedford, so I get down there many times a year. Nice hilly country.

Jim, you've already on the right track by entering this '62-'65 site. Also, the new books by Darrell Davis have a bunch of info on verifying real cars (they are often listed on eBay, such as this current listing: <http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1963-426-MAX-WEDGE-DODGE-RAM-CHARGER-GUIDE-MOPAR_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ34218QQihZ011QQitemZ320135899741QQrdZ1>

What I like about Davis's guides is that he personnally researched factory records to obtain his information, while much of the other info out there is guesswork or speculation, or repetition of the same old magazine article cliches'.

On your question, the 273 is an LA engine with wedge heads, as is the LA 318, 340, 360. The 383 and 440 are examples of B and RB engines with wedge heads. But the max wedge refers to a factory package on 62, 63, and 64 models, either 413 or 426 cubic inch, called "maximum performance" at the time, and among other things, the max wedge heads had much larger ports and valves than regular B and RB wedge engines. I apologize if I'm belaboring obvious things, but I've seen listings on eBay in the last couple of years especially that are erroneously referring to regular 440 engines as "max wedge".

BTW, welcome to the Mopar camp!

I am a recovering P*ntiac guy. Can someone point me in the direction of a website or something that will tell me about the Max Wedge? History, cars, engine info...

And, could a 273 be considered a "Min" Wedge?

thanks
Jim O.
