I went to a Seattle car show a few months back and learned of a way to completely remove rust from parts that you can submerse in water. I tried it out on some badly rusted brake drum assemblies that had been laying out in the elements for several decades. I'm not a chemist or even really smart, but this is like electrolysis and is so simple that even I can do it. Basically, you use a soda wash that is available at your grocery store (not baking soda) like Arm & Hammer, mix up a solution (doesn't need to be precise), put your part in the solution, then hook up a battery charger so that the positive is attached to a sacrificial piece of stainless steel and the negative is hooked to the part you want to de-rust. Turn it on and leave it. I tried it and can vouch for the process. I contacted the magazine editor who published this gem and he said he had no problems with me sharing it online. I have the scanned article, which is in two pages, about 4 megabytes total. If you'd like me to send it to you, contact me at waedison1@xxxxxxxxxxx Gary, suggest you look this over and see if you want to post it on the tech page. /Butch/Ferndale, WA ---- Please address private mail -- mail of interest to only one person -- directly to that person.
