As far as I know all steel front end Max Wedge cars came without a scoop and had the hood bracing cut on the underside. I believe only aluminum front end cars had the scoop and they had 2 holes cut out to seal the carbs. I think they also had the stacks in the trunk that sealed the carbs to the scoops ? At this link on the '62-'65 website, there is a pic of the underside of my '62 car's hood, of course '62's did not have scoops but I believe '63 cars without scoops look the same. http://www.1962to1965mopar.ornocar.com/parker62.htmlBill & Kathi Parker, South Central Indiana'60 Chrysler Saratoga kustom; '62 Plymouth Max Wedge; '64 Dart convertible; '65 Barracuda \6; '65 Imperial; '68 Barracuda FB 340-S; '69 Barracuda FB now 360; '70 Challenger now 440; '72 Cuda '340From: Jason Chance <j23@xxxxxxxxxxx> Reply-To: 1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxx To: 1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: Max Wedge hood? The ribs were cut fairly close to the edges of the hood.I think the 'home plate' thing your talking about was later, on the hemi versions you got the plate with holes for the stacks and the seals that came in the trunk. The hood on those just had a huge hole to fit the diagonal chrome hemi air cleaner. The plate would go over this hole (with the seals) if you removed the big air cleaner and ran the stacks.Jason Jim Altemose wrote:What did the underneath of a real Max Wedge hood look like? Particularly, a 63 Dodge, but I'm curious about all. I've seen two holes where the air cleaners are. I've also seen a 'home plate' kind of shape. Was the cutout reinforce, or did they just cut out the ribs? - Jim Jim Altemose, Long Island, NY '63 Polara 500 (Max Wedge), '65 Belvedere I (Street Wedge), '71 Bronco----Please address private mail -- mail of interest to only one person -- directly to that person.
