Try a race-prepped Thermoquad with 1000cfm on tap.

Subject: Carb selection, post-test of the "Tired" '65 Coronet 500

I drove it yesterday, and punched it for first time at a low speed after
rolling away from a stoplight in a safe place. It just hooked up with no tire spin I could hear and pulled really hard. I was pretty surprised how hard it pulled, but going from a 2.76 to 3.55 has to help. It felt like it will do the 11's I am shooting for, felt much quicker than the mid-12's car I used to race,
but timeslips will tell better than seat-of-pants.

We in SoCal are fortunate to have an excellent tuning track at Irwindale.
Only an 1/8 mile, but it's first 60 feet is among the best, so I will start learning the car there. They are liberal in applying the traction goo. They rent the place out on some weekends to groups at a reasonable price, so that you
can get essentially unlimited runs to tune.

I'm trying now to figure out what carburetor to get. The Edelbrock 750 on
now works really well, but think a 496 roller/stroker with a .533 lift cam could
handle more cfm. Holley's new 870 Street Avenger looks interesting. A
friend ran a 1050 Dominator on a warmed-up 440 back in the '80's, it worked, but
seemed overkill to me.

Any carb votes?
