regarding a 4 door hardtop. it'd be hard to fake,, and what more.,, what would be the purpose? the doors are different, the side glass is different, the weatherstriping is different, the interior trim (between the doors is different.... I don't think anyone could really do it in a convincing way.., and to what end? modivated by what? you walk up to a MW car,, yeah.. you better know how to spot a fake,, a 4dr HT?? unlikely it'll be a problem. that said..,,, your question about spotting a fake applies to all cars.., the fender tag has a "SO NUMBER" that is stamped into the radiator core support, usually on the driver's side,, either on top (under a sticker.,, sometimes,) or facing rear... that ties the fender tag to the the body... If the broadcast sheet is available, it'll have the SO NUMBER and build date on it as well and that ties the VIN to the fender tag. The certicard has the VIN, the Trim, Body, and Paint codes on it, these match the "TRM BDY PAINT" codes on the fender tag... yet another way to assert some legitimacy to a car. certicard also has the delivered date,, which can be compared to the fender tag's scheduled build date. The pre-rivet VINs are difficult to move from car to car. the way they are welded to the body makes it 1) difficult to remove without popping a small hole it it, or without cutting out fomr the back and grinding it down,, and 2) difficult to reattach unless you go the adhesive route... > What do ya say guys? its a 4dr,, the fact that its an HT makes it cool.
