Neil,
A relatively inexpensive (@10 for $25 bucks) "N-95" rated tie-on mask will
remove the particulates that are the dangerous components, however, I don't know
if it will remove the fumes component that may give the bad aftertaste.
The N-95 masks are used at hospitals to protect against air-borne diseases,
if you know a healthcare worker (I'm one)......BUT, be aware that they are only
as effective as the quality of the fit on your face. They don't work if
there are gaps caused by wrong size, shape of face, facial hair on the edges, etc.
I don't think the typical respirator can remove all of the fumes that cause
the bad taste, sine the molecules are probably too snall for the masks rating.
Any mask that good would be almost impossible for your lungs to drag in air
through.
