Well I just tried a strong magnet on some stainless trim I have here and
some stainles bolts and there was definately a magnetic attraction but
not nearly as strong as a regular steel bolt. Of course there was no
attraction at all on my aluminum grill.

Well I've never found any stainless to be magnetic.
It is all basically, the same alloy, but 320, 316 having more nickel in
it than say 304
The higher alloy number means it has more nickel.
It is a non ferrous metal, like brass, bronze, aluminum, etc.
That's why stainless intake valves have to be zyglow inspected, instead
of magnafluxed.
It has to be magnetic to magnaflux.

I got retired from Honeywell this year, making room for those
technicians from india.......
The stainless steel hardware we used had ZERO magnetic attraction...
Not to say some stainless steels don't have magnetic qualities, but none
we worked with had any.......
Just a $0.02 worth obsvervation.......
