Amen. I've watched a few of those episodes, and it grates me real bad when they take a decent old car (any brand) and "tunerize" it with goofy paint schemes, tons of computerized junk sound equipment, 20" wheels, and all that other crap that passes for "custom" work these days. American Hot Rod is not nearly as bad as "Overhaulin" in that regard. And what's with all those phony "deadlines" on these shows? You can bet your butt that if it were my 50 or 100 grand paying for a custom bike or car that I would allow all the time needed to do it right. They create these artificial deadlines to torque up the tension among the crew members strictly for effect. I have to live with artificial deadlines and unrealistic expectations 40 hours a week. I don't need it on TV as well. Why can't they just build the show around craftsmen at work? I've got nothing against racers or rodders, but my personal preference is restoration. I'm much more impressed by someone who can take an old beater and return it to just-off-the-line condition. You've got to know the car to do that, and know what's "right", not just how to chop one up to make huge wheels clear and day-glo electronic garbage light up. Thanks for allowing me to rant a bit.
