You need a B-body shifter handle and rods, the shifters are
interchangeable for the most part. Where is the shifter mount on the
tranny? B-body is on the front of the tail section, A and E body are at
the rear. Some trannys have both mounts. When I put my Polara together 2
years ago, I had long shift rods, so I cut them in half, removed a
couple inches, welded them together, and ground them smooth. It was
kinda half-assed, but all I had at the time. I expected them to break
due to my inability as a welder, but after many gear slams, they're
still holding.
