Re: Stupid Question of the Decade

I too am just learning about these carbs, so I;m not a 100% on this.
far as I can tell the Carter AFB and Edelbrock performer series are pretty
much the same thing except the numbering system for the metering rods and jets
is diff, which is no big deal, just know which ones you got. And I imagine the
rebuild kits and part #'s are different also. I noticed that when I rebuilt my
AFB recently that there are two different types of needle and seat assemblies,
they both will work but require a float adj, as the ones I got, in the Carter rebuild kit,
were a little different, and once I figured out how they go in they put the floats about a 1/2" out
of adjustment. again, no big deal, the floats are easily adjusted. anyway I guess I did it
right, the old Dodge fired right up after I back in it back in, adjusted as the manual says.
I've never taken the Edelbrock carb apart or examined there rebuild kit, they might have yet another type of needle and seat? that, although is different, will still work? don't know for sure.
Also, there are some minor differences in the older AFB's compared to the newer ones.
and I would think the Edelbrocks are more like the newer AFB's.
So to answer your question, yes I think the knowledge would transfer, maybe,
sorry I can't be more specific but maybe this helps a little.

Being an old quadrajet guy I am a bit embarrased to ask, but here goes
... is an Edelbrock Performer Series carb the same as a Carter AFB?

So if I buy a Carter how-to book, I can likely transfer the knowledge to
Edelbrock tuning?
