Try using a Good all metal polish with flour, yes, good old household flour.
The flour is abrasive enough to take off any film or substance, but not
abrasive enough to scratch. It absorbs the cleaner, turns it into a wet
paste and cleans/shines. Cleans quite nicely. It also works well with
Windex on grease/oil stains on linoleum and tile.
The best aluminum polish I have ever found is "Met-All". Had some aluminum
valve covers on a Rustang when the radiator cap imploded going down the
highway back in 1989. Sprayed hot anti-freeze all over the motor
compartment including the valve covers. I thought they were stained for
life, but Met-All cleaned/shined everything after I had tried three or four
others. I still have my original can of the stuff.
Hard to find, but it can be found. Try the flour trick first.
