Made 6 passes over @ 2.5 hrs. Everything went well until the final pass. As I staged the car I got a noise I've never heard before in any car. It sounded like loud static coming from the radio. I even reached over to make sure the radio was off. I went ahead and made the run and everything seemed normal except that the 2-3 shift was sluggish. The noise persisted all the way through the run but quit by the time I pulled off at the end of the track. In looking at things as I pulled into the pit there was nothing obvious. I drove the car home shortly after that and the 2-3 shift was sluggish again as I pulled out on to the highway. By the time I had driven it a mile or so and needed to run through the gears again it was shifting normally. The next morning as I was looking things over I checked the tranny fluid and it smelled a bit like burning wiring. So I'm wondering if the tranny fluid simply was too hot and was the cause of all these symptoms. The car is a mild 440/727 w/ a shift kit. I made runs #5 & 6 back to back but the engine temp was in the normal range (needle @1/2 way up) on run #6. I don't have an auxillary oil cooler on the tranny. What do you guys think? (btw, I made my fastest pass that nite, a 9.49. But I still think this old girl has the potential for a little more. Problems hookin' up.)
