With the engine pulling down in gear, it may be the converter is too tight
like Sean says. I would think it shouldn't drop but about 150 rpm when put in
gear. The factory AVS should be set at 500 rpm hot, in gear. With the Mopar
reproduction Roadrunner cam, 268/284 degree, may need a little more. I put
one of these cams in my 66 and have the idle set @ 600/650 rpm with the AFB.
The cam was installed "straight up". If the cam was retarded a few degrees
when installed, it would slow the idle down also. Make sure to disconnect and
plug the vacuum advance when setting the timing. I've forgotten to do this
more than once. I think once the carb and timing are set up correctly, the
converter would be my next best guess. I don't know what the stall is on
those. That car may need a little deeper gear with that cam too. It should pull
good from 1200 - 1500 rpm on up.
My 2 cents. Good luck. Joe
