Yeah about the umbrella seals, I was 15 and had put a weiand 4 barrel and Holley 650 on her and had some fun, let me tell you, if one of your umbrella seals rips in half you know you are revving it too high. I never could blow the engine up, just wore it out to the point where I was better off putting a barrel of oil on top of the car and siphoning it to the engine lol. That was my first car, I'm now 17 and its a parts car for the wagon. Probably shouldnta mistreated it so much, but you just can't blow the old polys. I don't do that to my 383, even though it can handle much more than what I put the ol 4 door through. I have much more respect now.

yep, what Ben said, also pieces of the old umbrella seal can break off  
and clog things up, and if enough
of it breaks off, well, you got no seal to keep the oil out. You might  
see evidence of this when you pop
the valve covers off.
