I wouldnt write the 273s off just yet. I am old enough to have seen two of them eat 396 s for breakfast .
The 235 hp formula Ss were absolute killers. Had one of the first factory single plane mainfolds . long before torkers tarantulas and streetmasters etc. . The heads had a moderen heart shped chamber and they came with a factory solid lifter cam.
Becuase of thier small cubes head efficiency was very high.
I heard Egge even has repoed the hi comp formula S pistons . 10.- to 1 pop ups.
Were no chevy guys laughing at these little motors. They were scared poopless.
I did one for a collector fior a 66 cuda some years ago. real fun engine. There was also a dragster fully enclosed built with fuel injection . I think it was called the Bullet or something. It was on all the Dupont painting calenders for a couple of years . Last I heard Rick Procter of the Ontario Nostalgia Drag Racing Assc (ONDRA) had bought the car. He may still have it.
