My brother spun a rod bearing and was told it was due to a catalytic converter that was plugged. According to the dealer the backpressure causes the engine oil to overheat resulting in bearing problems. The engine had a bronze color on all engine internals when it was opened. Rod, main and cam bearings were replaced along with the cam and lifters. The catalytic converter was replaced. The oil pump was replaced with a new Melling M-72 pump. Prior to the problem engine oil pressure was a constant 40 pounds pressure when at temperature and at road speed. Now the oil pressure is 40 when first started and drops to 20 pounds when up to temperature at road speed. Should we be concerned? Is it possible to change the relief spring in the oil pump? Should a different oil pump be installed? 64 Belvedere 63 Sport Fury (basket case) San Diego ---- Please address private mail -- mail of interest to only one person -- directly to that person.
