When you change the cam you need to modify the distributor curve otherwise you will have poor idle , no power at low speed and no vacuum. 
Changing back to 1..5s wont solve your particular problem but I am betting it wont hurt power any. 
The whole hot rod crowd is drunk on this more is better and yet in testing we find time and time again it just isnt so. 
Anyway reworking your distributor curve will bring back the drivability.
