Neal,

Relax, take a deep breath... Just because someone says stroker,
does not mean that one must go into sugar plum land buy a bunch
of exotic parts. Put the Summit catalog down, and step away from
your Visa card. Don has been building low cost killer motors for
ever, and tying to get people on this forum to understand that you do not
have to spend a fortune to have a great motor.

There is nothing better on the street than a big inch, mild camed,
high torque, stroker motor. They drive like it was and electric motor.
You can build a big inch low cost motor, and there is nothing more
fun than dusting high dollar motors with one.

You don't need the 2000.00 dollar kit. Stock rods will be fine. A set
of KB pistons will work great, you have to buy pistons anyway. So the
only real difference is the crank price. Hell, your going to spend 50 to
a hunsky on a used crank, then another hundred at the machine shop.

The number one principal in engineering school is the KISS principle.
Keep It Simple Stupid. (Trust me, I am afflicted with the same disease
as you, I am just older and recognize the symptoms sooner from experience)
Not to mention I am German - We tend to over engineer everything.

Put it down on a piece of paper in a couple of columns. Make one column
the el cheap o big inch column, and don't put any expenditure you don't
have to in it, and compare it with a stock column, and see how it comes out.

from what i have heard the 67 318 even in cars was forged, that year only,
then the 273 and 318 both lost their steel cranks in 68, i believe the
trucks are a different story.
   AHHHHHH!!!!!!!! STROKERSTROKERSTROKER!!!!!!!!! Stop it u
Guys!!!!!!!!!! Quit trying to get me to change my mind, dont u know i
am crazy enough as it is!
BTW I did price out kits, the 340 416 stroker kit with cast crank,
steel aftermarket rods and forged wisecos for $1995 from a place
caled RPM Machine in Utah. Do u know of em Earl?
On the other hand building a stroker wouldnt really go with my idea
of a nice simple reliable street car. After going to all that bother
a tunnel ram and duals would be required, maybe some nitrous and a
big ol hi-stall, oh yeah and then that Dana 60 sitting in the
    woodshed over at Moms place,...............
