I'm voting w/Menko on this subject. My '64 Savoy with /6 and 3 on the tree, while light weight, was a total pain to drive around as a daily driver w/manual steering. You are always rowing the steering wheel. Unless one is only going down in a straight line at full throttle needing max HP, the excellent Chrysler power steering is a big improvement for regularly driven cars. The manual steering has like 6 or 7 turns lock to lock, the power steering has 3.5 turns, and Firm Feel offers a 2.75 turn L2L pitman arm. You do the math. My '63 /6 A904 PS manual brake Belvedere is aces above that '64 I had in daily use. On the other hand, the manual brakes are light enough for my size 12 feet.

Lots of folks have converted
their power steering and power brakes to manual steering and manual
brakes. Having both manual steering and brakes on my car, I wonder
why anyone would want them. The manual steering is a bear in tight
spaces (lots and lots of turns) although part of that may be due to my
185/80/113 tires. Power brakes I sort of udnerstand better since i've
driven a few that seem to be either "on" or "off" and dont have much
graduated response.

So, why do manual steering? I guess if I had a tighter ratio box it
wouldn't take 50 turns point to point, but even then... ;-)

Thanks!
