I have a 383, 4 speed, mild cam, headers and switched from a Holley 750cfc vacuum to a Holley 700cfm dual pumper.....what a big mistake!!!! The car has run rough ever since. I've rebuilt the carbuerator, jetted it, replaced accelerator pump and it still runs like crap. So now, I'm dumping the dual pumper and getting another 750cfm Holley.

Suppose how hot the 383 is determines what it can handle as far as double
pumpers. Still, mine prefers the progressive vacuum secondaries, don't know
about anybody else.

i believe the only advantage a vacuum secondary has is better gas mileage

i have a 950 hp on a 540 horse motor and it works very well.
on the other hand i have a small block chevy with a 650 double pumper,
this set-up also works well.
this 650 came from my brothers mild 383, and it did for that motor, what the 950
does for mine.

I've found that my 383 prefers a vacuum secondary Holley over everything else
I've tried, it currently has a Holley 750 HP series and I've tried Edelbrock
power pack 600 (mechanical secondaries, always ran too lean even though I tried
just about every jet they had in the tune up kit.), 800 TQ, and a 650 Holley HP
series (also too lean). This current holley works terrific with my four speed
and super stocker legal intake, lots of power in the rpms and torque down lower
too. I've read on this site that a 383 would not be able to handle the instant
kick of a double pumper. I don't know about the street avengers, but this is
what I've tried and hopefully it'll come of hand to you. By the way, my little
318 w/ holley street dominater intake, bumpy cam, and a good TQ brings out some
raw torque. Stripped clutch out of the car with that set up. Don't know what the
cam is, I think its just a comp street performer. Nothing too hot.

I am considering a new 4 barrel carb for my stock 315. If I go with a
Holley what size would be good for a driver?

I have a 383 with some mild head work and a cam. I didn't do the work so
I'm not sure what cam it has, it was done before I bought the engine. I am
considering a 760 Holley Street Avenger. Any comments about the carb
choice and size?

Thanks.
