Thinking back to when I changed my rear end. The unit I took out wasn't  even 
the tapered axle rear end. I think somewhere along the life of the car,  
someone changed the complete rear end housing for whatever reason. I think  that's 
why I say the 68 housing I installed was wider than what I pulled out. So  I 
can't compare it to the actual stock 64 rear. I have no idea what year or car  
the rear I took out came from.
