trash or stash- 8.25 questions

 in my "OTHER" ( off topic) project I am  swapping the 8.25 the car 
 came with for an 8.75 suregrip setup  that will bolt right in, .
   Question is, should I save this 8.25 rear for a future project or
   junk it.
   I have heard two different aproaches to the  8.25's : 
       The first- I know a car running a small block 11 second dart
       bracket car with an 8.25 and he has never broken it yet in threee
       years.
        The other is that theres some thing about the axles falling out
        on windy roads because of clips or some such thing i read about
        some where.  
     Just looking for some  guidance \
