Anyhow, has anyone here replaced the pinion seal on their rear end? I have a '63 Polara 500 ragtop and I came out one day to find a puddle of 90 weight sitting on the garage floor. After investigating it, it does appear that the front pinion seal on the rear end has let go. In looking in the manual, there is mention of a number of special tools, which I know I don't have, needed to do this. Of course, that's the ideal dealer setup, but what's the real deal for shadetree types? How hard is it to get the nut off the pinion that holds the U-joint collar on? And then, once that's done, how hard is it to get the seal out? I have done rear end axle seals a number of times, but never a pinion seal. Any help would be appreciated. Also, is this something Napa would normally still have on the books?
