I think it comes down to voting with your participation and only choosing shows that do a better job.

While I almost never show my car, I did so last Friday because work was putting on an event to benefit the United Way.
Entry was $20 per car and included a lunch ticket. Categories were: Classic, Muscle, Corvette, Motorcycle, Exotic, Electric, Tuner, and Offroad/Truck, maybe a few others.
There were trophies for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each class, a $50 gift card for first in each class, and a car care gift basket for people's choice.
Voting in any of the classes was free, but voting for People's Choice required donating to the cause.
I think there were 100-120 entries total, and the event raised almost $5k, albeit with a lot of donated/volunteer help.

Shows can and are still be done well, so I suggest trying to seek out the better shows and let the ones cutting corners reap what they've sown.

Anyone notice how car shows these days inspire of the higher entry fees, are now only providing one trophy?

There used full categories with a trophy for 1st, 2nd and third.  Then it reduced to 1st and 2nd only.  Recently just one trophy for the entire show, the people’s choice award.

I attended a show last weekend in Northern California that had categories fir best 40’s, best 50’s, no category for at all for the 60’s or 70’s.  Leaving us completely out of the choices.

What’s up?  Has it become too expensive to run a show these days? With higher liabilities?

Your observations and thoughts?
