Here's an article about "Mr. Plymouth" Robert Nance FYI. 

An excerpt from the piece:

"In 1962, Nance was still driving his 1932 Ford with a Mopar engine in the gas class. However, that year, he purchased a new 1962 Plymouth, which was one of the first factory-produced drag cars. This Plymouth featured a 413-ci engine with an advertised output of 420 hp. Interestingly, Nance was only able to purchase this car because he was officially sponsored by Plymouth as a factory racer.

Nance's car only had 270 miles on it when he took Plymouth to the drag strip at Hixson for a race. ...Nance won the event after completing a quarter mile in just 12.45 seconds. Two weeks later, he managed to cut his quarter-mile time to 12.39 seconds. With this quickness, Nance and his Plymouth were winning all Stock eliminator races in this local area.

Armed with this local dominance, Nance went to bigger races, racking up victories. Since he was a factory racer, he still had to report back to Plymouth each time he entered a race...."
