cast crank big blocks

I am desperately trying to get my 65 coronet back on the road. I am up the creek since my machinist died suddenly. I have found some running low mileage motorhome 440s in the 400 dollar range and am thinking, "well maybe i could do that for a short term solution" .

    One thing I don't understand is that I  always  thought all cast crank 440s had that really thick , yet smaller diameter, harmonic balancer. But I have found a couple that appear to have the thinner balancer?  What gives??
