Re: coil choice

Hi John & Neal,
Please consider a module/coil/resistor package from "4 seconds flat" (https://4secondsflat.com/Ignition.html).
I had exactly the same frustrations with several different "mopar" style modules and I always had trouble. I've had the 4 seconds flat module on my big block
'63 Sport Fury for years now. It starts always starts great, runs stronger and is easy on spark plugs.
Good Luck!
Lyle

Thanks Neal, I want to buy a kit for my buddy, he has a 70 road runner convertible clone that he's been having on and off starting trouble for years. Almost every year we go to Carlisle, he's changing coils in hotel parking lot or on the side of the highway, last year he changed all under dash and engine compartment wires, Still had trouble. Changed alternator and ballast.  A few weeks ago he went to a local show and car wouldn't start. Changed everything on firewall, and coil, still needed to be towed home. Next day, car starts. So like your thinking, if he changes everything that belongs as a kit, hopefully this could solve his issues. Thanks, I'll look into his ebay store after the 22nd. John Wask...

And I think his ebay store is actually called ricks-mopars. But it's empty right now. Carlisle most likely.

disregard the 2040 parts thing , I was wrong. Anyway I just looked at his ebay page and it seems to be empty, so I think he has shut down his store temporarily. I think he's probably at Carlisle. Returns June 19.
The kit I got from him comes with a 7500 rpm module, that he says is comparable to the chrome box.. He says it's better than the orange boxes, which I think is what comes in the summit Proform kits.
But as I said it comes with no coil and it requires a 1.4 to 1.8 primary resistance coil. I bought an Accel Super stock coil (1.4)   I think there's a pertronix coil also that fits the bill, and I bet there's some stock types  at the local parts houses, but when I asked they said their computers had no specs they showed, so I  just grabbed an aftermarket Accel since I could find those specs.

Subject: coil choice

Hi gang. I bought a Richard Ehrenberg electronic ignition conversion kit . Pretty good deal I think for 145 bucks. New distributor, cap, rotor, ballast resistor, wire harness, ECU and plug wires. I wanted all new stuff , not a bunch of cobbled together junkyard crap from my stash.

   Anyhoo, I digress.

What it doesn't come with is a coil. He says it can't be a fancy coil ( low resistance , I guess). It should have 1.4 to 1.8 ohms primary resistance. Is there a stock mopar coil I  can get at the auto parts store that would meet that spec.  What would be a good year / model mopar to tell them at the counter? I went on Summit and they didn't give a primary resistance  spec on  their mopar coils, only on the fancy aftermarket Mallory,Blaster, Accel, etc.  stuff.

This is a small block I am dealing with. I am back to wrenching  on my off topic 340 Barracuda.

   Thanks ,

   Neal Z
