If it is the original rear end it will be a 489 case in 1974. They all used

I have a buddy that has a 1974 challenger, complete rear end drum to drum
,with sway bar, has a 391 sure grip, and is in perfect cond. is this the
clutch or cone type sure grip? Also like to know what its worth  AL

Used units bring $350 -$500 depending on the case type and the sure grip
type.

There are deals out there to be had though.

My opinion is that the later unit, cone type sure grips are junk. I
always look for a clutch type. They can be rebuilt, and are much more
durable.
Dont be afraid of the small pinion 741 cases unit either. Even though
the pinion is smaller in diameter, its not smaller where they break.
