Gary ----- Original Message ----- From: <Skagdrager@xxxxxxx> To: <1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, January 30, 2005 1:44 PM Subject: my dipstick is too short OK U guys, get your minds out of the gutter. I've got 2 62 poly 318 cars and I just discovered that the dipstick is 1 1/2" shorter on one (I think this stick is from the later type 318). I stumbled over this when I changed oil; this time rather than going by the dipstick, I checked the service manual specs: 4 quarts for the engine plus one more for the filter. So I put 5 in and it wasn't even registering on the dipstick at all. (No wonder it has been smoking so badly. I must have been running about 60% too much oil in it. And now even though I've got the right amount of oil in, it's still smoking most of the time, except warmed up at idle speed.) If I'm correct the length from the lower tip to where the tube stop will hit the top of the tube is about 18 1/4" and from the "FULL" line to the tube stop is about 16 3/4". You guys with polys, can you verify lengths for me? And, does anyone have a spare for sale? Thanks.
