Think it is pot metal which you would not have fun welding. Why not cut 2 pods and use 1" wide by 3/16 thick soft aluminum plates at the seams placed inside and joined with 10-24 aluminum screws. Tap both the plates and the pod thru, goober up with JB Weld, insert screws either side of cut lines allow epoxy to cure then sand aluminum screws off flush with pod on outside, prime, sand, paint, looks perfect, won't come apart, stronger than before. I used the aluminum screw trick to restore the pod on my max wedge car which had about a million tach mounting screw holes on it. After paint I will defy you to find the repairs on the finished outside of the pod...

I am thinking about building a custom dash by taking 2 housings and welding them together to make it twice as long, so I can put all kinds of need gauges, radio, gps etc. My problem is I don't want to cut things up until I find out if the dash pod is aluminum or pot metal. I can weld alum and not pot metal. Please advise Don, herwig@xxxxxxxxxx or my office 800-643-9523
