While the shift pattern does not change, yes, the trans is shifted
1,2,4,3. The 3/4 lever is flipped upsidedown to fool the shifter.
450 is alot to handle on one of the transmissions. As I stated before,
in OD, the loads are applied to the countershaft, while a no-od trans
does not apply it to the countershaft in top gear. This means the the
countershaft, and its bearings are suporting the load/shock of the
trans. The side cover is a weak area, as its not very stout and can flex
under hard use. The passon perforance aluminum cases address the
strength issues that the OD box had, but then again, its alot more
expensive.
Could it handle 450? Sure, in a lightweight car, and for street use
(read minimal or no powershifting). They may have put the OD trans in a
pick up, but I have only seen them behind Slant 6 cyls and only in light
duty half tons.

This will explain some things better than I.
