the shaft and gears are different on an 18 spline. the input shaft bearing 
retainer is larger than the standard 23 spline. the 18 spline bearing retainer 
may not fit all bel housings. i know it will fit a 68-69 143 tooth, but may not 
fit 64-65 130 tooth bell housings.
