The trans should standup all right. I have a 5 speed behind the 318 in my Dakota and I get rubber from 1st through 3rd with little effort! Also factory with 3.90 gears. Only problem is for smooth takeoffs you really need to use 2nd gear, low first gear. I have heard that the factory 5 speeds can't handle high horsepower but I don't know!
