   Gary, the screws were a security measure, so no one could get into the trunk. I'll you would have had to do is unscrew the plate light and you have access to the latch. I get mine out by getting into the trunk and put a pair of vise grips on them from the inside and screw them out that way. JM2CW.   Dennis


I may have answered my own question, because I may
have foud a solution on the net. In case you guys run
in to this problem, here it is:
