Jim,

Welcome to the list! Brent is correct, buy a good bodied car. You will spend less time, effort and possibly money by going this route. Motors are easier to rebuild than a car body, unless you are a body repair man by trade. I made that mistake in my youth - bought a '67 Rustang for the motor. She ran great, but had more metal in the radiator than in the floor boards. She'd do over a 135 mph on long stretch of Kansas road, but the carpet would be hitting the headliner due to the air coming through the floor! Buy for a body, not for a motor, especially if the car is going to be a clone. The 440 is a good idea as well. My 2C.

find a good slant 6 body and spend that money on a great engine . a strong 440 can be build for a fraction of that , then add the maxwedge intake and exhaust (for that maxie look). Watch out for the common 62-65 body ills.. Cowl rot(wet carpet), floor rot(unibody), hard to find rear quarters, bad rubber and leaks around front and back windows...? this 62-65 group isTHE BEST source for info and alot of parts and knowlege.

All,

I'm new to the list As a quick intro, my name is Jim and I'm from
Smithtown, Long Island, NY. I currently have a '72 Chevelle SS, a '71
Bronco, a '47 Willy's CJ-2A, and an '82 Jeep Scrambler (which I'm
selling). My dream is to build or restore a Max Wedge and run it at
nostalgia drags. I'd like to find an original Max Wedge car without
the correct engine, find a correct engine, and put the two together.
This is probably the only way to afford it. I'm realistic enough to
think I won't find one, in which case I'll build a clone, but I'll
give it some time first.

I do know of an original '63 Polara with a '65 street wedge engine.
It's in rough shape and hasn't run in 10 years. Not rusty, but needs
lots of TLC. I've been pestering the owner to sell it to me for
$17,000. He's not selling yet, but he might change his mind some day.
I'd welcome some opinions on whether this is a reasonable price or
too high or low.

Thanks.
