Bill, Thanks for the help. We're am taking the .030 to clean up the 64 Imperial 413 block. We can't find the high compression pistons so it has been suggested to cut the head's to get the increase...and yes, I'm using the stock heads ... am doing the valves also. I am not doing the work myself, but am hireing it done.... they're asking lot'sa questions that I'm not sure about in 2004...I know how I would have answered in '63. Thanks, Bob ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bill" <hemirr@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: <1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, August 08, 2004 3:18 PM Subject: RE: modified 413

What pistons are you going to use? And are you using original 413 heads?
They have closed chambers and probably provide some quench benefit with flat
top pistons. I'm running a nominal 10.25:1 in my '72 340 and runs fine on
premium, so I'm going to go about there with others I'm building. Did you
need to bore that block due to deep gouges? If not, in my opinion would be
better to keep thicker walls compared to a very small gain in displacement,
and 413 and 426 pistons are about equally difficult to get.
