I had nothing but trouble with those pumps as well. Finally I installed a stock rebuilt Hi Perfomance 440 pump . Its listing included the 6 pack engines as well. It works fine even at hi RPMS. The first Federal carter pump the pump arm pin fell out after only two days. The second had goofy pressure . This current style pump has been on the motor for two years now. We put a very thin aluminum shield between the pump and the block. It stops the gas from boiling during hot soak conditions.
