I always used a pressure regulator to keep it in line. The good news is that we finally got our semi-rebuilt 440 started (without its mufflers) for the first time. After the 318 this sounds great. The bad news is that it only ran for about 15 seconds before fuel started coming out of the bowl vents and I had to shut it down. I replaced the needle valves again and adjusted the float level down as far as I could and again, the same thing happened. I am using a stock fuel pump and a Comp cam. Are the Comp cams ground to stroke the fuel pump more and increase fuel pressure? My fuel pressure gage is being pegged at 8 PSI. The carb is the stock 1972 Holley that came with the 440 to which I added adjustable float bowls. Anything special I should be looking for?
