Poly 318 Long Block core: free (they often beg you to haul 'em away). Remember, the Poly has a steel crank that comes free with the block. JE forged aluminum Pistons: $695? Cam: regrind is inexpensive and works fine because of the adjustable shaft mounted valve train. New cams are about $195. Lifters: $100 Intake: Weiand #7503 is approx. $219 from Summit Racing, or get a dual quad or three deuce from the swap meets... Headers: TTI $575? Custom $500-$1200 or dirt cheap at $175 from Harold if he gets his act together. All the other parts interchange with the LA 318/340...motors: valve springs/retainers, timing chain, oil pump, fuel pump, rod & main bearings, rods, cranks, distributors... Most don't know where to look for performance parts for a Poly and LA parts are everywhere. When you know what the options for a Poly are vs. the LA, take a pencil and paper to figure the + or - of the deal. There are subjective factors like "uniqueness" and "how fast do you want to go" that must be considered. Cost always depends on how fast you want to go and subsequent machine shop / parts co$t. Sounds like you already have some "air in" improvements over the usual 2bbl Poly 318 setup. You may need to just get a bumpier cam and some exhaust headers via dual pipes to help pump spent exhaust out. That's usually enough for a real fun street ride. Don't forget to figure in the price of buying a 360 motor to put in, as well as the changes needed to install it. That cost may cancel out any parts and machine shop pricing differences. People say it costs about the same to rebuild a 383 or a 440. Anyone know if that's true for basic rebuilding of a Poly 318 vs basic rebuilding a LA 318? Anyone?
