 Neal,   You can have a special torque convertor made for the early
trans, but there will be the extra cost associated with the "special"
part. At least with the later model front pump assembly, the selection of
aftermarket convertors come right off the shelf. High volumn production
lowers the cost per unit. The labor involved in removing and reinstalling
a transmission gets easier, every time you do it. The thought of trying a
different convertor in your car, will get to be as easy as a rear end
gear swap. Don's perfect match will only be your perfect match, if you
have most everything exactly the same as him. Try Summit's site for some
