When you actually sit down and figure it out you would be hard pressed to spend an extra $100 per year with a  car of our 62 to 65 Mopar variety. Hardly a cause for worry. 
However there is a very practical solution well within everyone grasp. Buy Oil trust units (I believe in USA they are called Limited partnerships but someone may know better) in a successful company. They pay a dividend (actually called a distribution) every month, go up and down in unit value with the price of Oil and are treated favourably by both Revenu Canada and Internal Revenue USA.
So now when the price of Oil and gas goes up I just smile. Our gas rose 8 cents this week per litre (3.8 litres = USA gallon. (Saw that on a toilet in Watertown).
Checked my trust units and saw they rose almost 30 cents so it was hard to be angry. 
Just a thought but it helps us guys with older hi po cars to enjoy the hobby and it is a great investment as well.
