I have wondered about this myself.  I asked around last year and got some 
responses.  Mine was originally mounted to the hole on the wheel well flange with 
the little bracket (actually I found the bracket laying in the trunk when I 
bought the car so I'm assuming that's the way it was mounted).  Howerver, my 
jack has a "T" shape and doesn't seem to fit in the bracket.  Or I'm not getting 
it in the bracket correctly.  I'd be interested in hearing some answers too.
