My Grandpa and Uncle got me into cars. I can still remember my Grandpa
telling me to watch the spark jump from his foot to the ground as he held
onto a plug wire. I thought it was cool until I tried it and jumped out of
my shoes. For some reason, he did not mind electricity running through his
body which was why he was one of the few that would work on the old electric
cars. I still have his 'Horseless Carriage' magazines.
My Uncle got me into muscle cars and let me rebuild my first car - his 65
Comet Cyclone. I drove it for a couple years and then gave it back to him.
He is still driving my rebuild from high school in 81. We both still talk
cars even though I am Mopar and he is Ford. He even sent me an add in the
mail to remind of the Spring Fling and I will go to the Buena Park Ford show
- primarily to check out Cyclones.
I have 10 year twins (son and daughter) that will help me with my cars.
When I first got the 63, I told them they had to help me install the rear
seat belts before they could ride in the car. Needless to say, I had two
helpers :-). Afterwards they told everyone in school that they were
mechanics! Now, my son helps with lube/oil and minor maintenance and my
daughter helps me detail. They are excited about helping me turn the 64
into a race car. We just picked a forged crank last night for my 451...
Also, I have told them both that they have to know how to change the oil and
a flat tire before I will let them get their drivers license. Hopefully,
they will decide on a project car as they get older.
Cheers,
Jamie

My Dad got me into car's. He bought my first car for me. '73 4-door
Coronet w/318. Car was $75 back in '86. I had to do the work to get it
on the road. Meant replacing calipers and rotors and re-shoing the car
all the way around. From then on I did all the work on it. I asked for
advice on what to do, and he'd tell me, but not do it for me.
Funny how it runs in family's.
