 The problem is---
 This hardening process is mostly a factory operation.  If it could be
done in a machine shop, as a retro type thing, it would still be kind of
a guess, as to depth and area.  The replacement steel seats also put the
valve back into the correct position in the head. Too many, or too deep
of a valve job, can pocket the valve in the head. This can change the
geometry of the valve train.  Tom
