With Mopar motors and also brand X of the french persausion (Aka Chevrolet) and all motors firing 18436572, put number 6 clyinder in overlap with one rocker going up and one rocker going down . The point where they pass at equal positions will be TDC for no 1 cyl (compression stroke ends power stroke begins. )
How come? Because the firing order is really
1843
6572
and it takes 2 revolutions to complete it. (720 degrees)
The numbers that are over and under each other directly have pistons in the same position at the same time. (Ie both at TDC together etc etc) the only difference is the stroke they are on which the camshaft decides and since it runs 1/2 engine speed, it takes 2 revolutions to complete all the valve events on all the cylinders.
This method works well and when some engines (ie Antique or exoTic) have no timing marks or one is unsure of which ones to use this method offers a great way to double check.
It is also used to check for jumped timing chains.
